The Department of ELT Materials Development (EMD Department) contributes to the development of English education in Korea and overseas by fostering the skills of English language teaching (ELT) professionals who can combine theory and practice in the development of ELT textbooks, digital contents, and ELT programs. Students will learn how to analyze and evaluate existing ELT textbooks, digital contents, and second language programs in addition to analyzing the needs of English learners in their areas of interest after building a theoretical foundation through the specialized curriculum of the department. They will plan and develop their own ELT textbooks, contents, and programs and learn how to use their products in field of ELT. Students will develop their own areas of specialty as ELT experts and work toward becoming ELT entrepreneurs by completing the entire curriculum of the department.
The objectives of the Dept. of EMD are
To foster ELT experts who can combine theory and practice in the development of ELT textbooks, digital contents, and ELT programs.
To cultivate ELT program developers and managers by teaching the overall process of planning, development, operation, and evaluation of ELT programs through professional, practical courses.
To collaborate with educational institutions in Korea and overseas in the areas of ELT textbook, digital content, and program design and development.
To cultivate ELT planners and authors by teaching the overall process of planning, writing, editing, developing, distributing, and utilizing ELT textbooks and digital contents through professional, practical courses.
To collect and analyze existing ELT textbooks, digital contents, and programs domestically and internationally and propose ways to improve them.
To help students develop their English language skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing so they can use English effectively as an international language.
